It's officially "baby month" and while I don't feel like I have experienced true "nesting" yet, I do feel like my husband has taken on this responsibility. He has been so hard at work these past few months trying to finish all of the projects in and around our house before baby arrives. While we know we won't be able to complete all of them before his arrival, we have made great progress.
One of the spaces that needed extra attention was our formal dining room. We never planned on using the space as formal dining, as we wanted a more open-concept, casual living and dining space that flowed from our kitchen into the living room. Instead, we envisioned utilizing this room as a den or home office. Last month, we finally decided to tackle designing and furnishing it. When we first moved in to our home last October, we didn't have much furniture for this space besides my old desk and chair from college, an old bookcase, and a filing cabinet. Inevitably, it became the dumping grounds for all of our moving boxes, small furniture, and decorations until we unpacked and decided where to put things. Fast forward roughly 8 months, and there were STILL boxes and decorations sitting there, even though my husband had to use this space and my little desk while he was working from home during the state mandated shelter in place. With the anticipation of our baby boy's arrival, and my husband still using this space more often, we knew it was time to get it cleared up.
First, we knew we needed a larger desk with more functional storage. Next, we knew we needed additional storage for important files, and a place to put some decor and memorabilia, so I wanted some type of ladder storage or etagere that could serve both purposes of function and style. Then, I envisioned creating a cool, comfortable seating nook in the office to make it feel more like a den, along with a new bar cart to make a nice beverage and unwind at the end of a long work day. Lastly, we wanted some homey finishing touches like a rug and framed artwork for the walls. Once our general vision came together, we realized the office was becoming much more masculine and industrial than what I originally thought, so we needed to change and incorporate a few new pieces to make this room feel more cohesive. The two perfect additions I found are the contemporary hardware and new light fixture that were gifted to us from Vevano Home! We already installed the handles to our wall storage unit, and it makes such a big impact on the overall look as well as the functionality of the cabinets, and I can't wait to replace our previous, brown light fixture with this sleek, black candelabra from Maxim lighting. Until November 30th, you may use the code KIM25 for $25 off $250 or more at Vevano Home! While we still need a few items like the bar cart and greenery to complete the space, and to properly style the storage unit, this space is quickly becoming one of mine and my husband's new favorite lounge spots! Stay tuned for the full office/den reveal soon! Love, Kimberly Thank you to Vevano Home for gifting these pieces.
